Book Fair Open

Sweet Read




Students enter the "sweetly" themed book fair. Mrs. Locker and her
students have been recognized by Scholastic in a National competition every
year. They are likely to win again!!

Morgan Elliott wins a Gold Medal at the Special Olympics over the
weekend!! We are so proud of you Morgan!

Mechanical Arm

GCMS 8th graders have received their ACT Explore results. The
teachers are reviewing commonly missed questions and they will then be
sent home.

Guys and Girls Read




Mrs. Peale reminds students of the Guys Read and Girls Read Program.
Students can join teachers during a morning book club meeting to discuss
a common book and enter a drawing for a Kindle.

by measuring it's shadow and solving proportions.

Students in Mrs. Locker's class explore half-life of radioactive
elements through a penny lab.

Barriers Broken




Students in Mrs. Willis's classroom play a game of Barriers and Paths.
It is an intro activity to the study of the Great Wall of China.

Sweet Little Buddies




GCMS Beta Club students, led under the Kelly Locker, teamed up with
Central Elementary 1st graders. Our students read them books. The
youngsters brought handwritten notes to their Beta Buddy.

MAP Your Way to Success




GCMS students take the MAP test on-line in reading, math and
language. They will take it again in the winter and spring to check
their academic progress.

War




Students in Mr. Johnson and Mrs. Carrico's classes go head to head in
a game of war ball. They were reenacting the American Revolution.

Acts of Kindness




Rachel's chain reaction is taking off at GCMS. Students have already
performed over 1000 acts of kindness which are represented by a paper
chain wrapping around the school.

Getting Results




Mr. Walker's class improved dramatically over the past 6 weeks. Great
work!

Mrs. Paitsel's students organize their notes for persuasive techniques
by creating colorful foldables.

Mrs. Peale's students get extra practice with figurative language
techniques by traveling through stations in cooperative groups.

Sound




Mrs. Fain makes her lesson interactive by demonstrating a tuning fork
 to explore sound waves.

Play Time




GCMS students enjoy a game of volleyball at this month's SOAR Assembly
after students were recognized for academic success.

Partner Up




Mrs. Lane's students practice math problems with a partner. Before
the activity, they made appointments with different students in the
room and rotated throughout the period to their different
appointments. This allowed kids to put their heads together with
several other students today.

Project Read




Language Arts students create projects and do oral presentations on a
book they recently read. This project was done by one of Mrs.
Paitsel's students. He created a scene from Old Yeller.

Anne Frank




Students present a power point on Anne Frank (a piece they read this
month) in Mrs. Lathrop's class.

Framed




Mrs. Peale's students present projects over current reads. This
student designed a DVD cover for the book, Framed.

A new group of art students create amazing designs of functional
ceramic art.

through races. They received automatic feedback and had to run and
