Students rotated around and demonstrated their learning through
various measurement performance assessments in science class.

Accept the Challenge

Students sign a banner to accept Rachel Scott's challenge of showing
kindness to one another and changing the world. Rachel was the first
student killed in the Columbine tragedy and left a legacy behind of
strong character. GCMS was moved by an assembly held by Rachel's
father earlier that day.

Minute To Win It

Students in Mrs. Gibb's class play "Minute to Win It" games and answer
the question of how it compares to Mesopotamian culture.

Exploring Mass

Mr. Cole's science students tested ideas in an experiment to find the
right combination of objects to equal the given mass measurements.

Name It and Claim It

Students in Mr. Johnson's class plan a new classroom arrangement by
being the first to claim furniture for their group. The activity
modeled what European countries did when choosing territories in the
new Americas.

7th graders act out the Neolithic Revolution when people learned to grow their own food.

A Hunting We Will Go

Mrs. Gibbs, Mrs. Willis and Mr. Seaton's social studies classes
experienced first hand life as a Hunter and Gatherer and the concept
of scarcity. Students went out and found eggs then had to make
decisions on how to feed their group.

Vocabulary is Key!

Students in Mrs. Guffey's READ 180 focus on the vocabulary word,
"immigrant". They learn the word by sharing sentences with one another,
explore it's word family (immigrate, immigration), watch a video clip
that emphasizes the term, and finally write sentences using the word.
It's a powerful method that she uses to teach various academic vocabulary words throughout the year.

Human Math Problems

Students in Mrs. West's classroom practice adding and subtracting
integers by taking it outside and acting out the steps.

Mr. Fuqua's band students start preparing for their Holiday Concert.
